9/17/2023 0 Comments Wolf creek ski area reviewsWe live about 5 hours away and we try to go every year. Lastly, I just wanted to add a couple words about Wolf Creek ski area itself. Wait until you see all of the frozen waterfalls on the way. It also was a gorgeous drive from the motel to the ski area. Second, the drive to Wolf Creek seemed shorter than from Pagosa Springs. First of all, I love the value of the hotel given the rooms, general atmosphere and amenities. But we will be staying at Wolf Creek Ski Lodge from now on for several reasons. There are some nice motels there, as well. We usually stay in Pagosa Springs when we ski at Wolf Creek. Did I mention it was free and I didn't have to prepare it? Mom needs a vacation, too! They also have a lot of brochures on local activities. It's not a very exciting breakfast, but it worked for us. The lodge is where you check in, relax on the beautiful hard wood furniture and watch TV or enjoy the fire, and eat a free continental breakfast in the morning (cereal, oatmeal, toast, hot chocolate, coffee, hot tea, and orange juice. When you first pull in, the lodge is right off the main highway and you feel like you are stopping at a real ski lodge. The current ones are fine, but they are looking very dated. And, yes, the water was immaculately clean and hot! The outside of the lodge and hotel rooms have been repainted and they will be putting in new doors on the rooms soon. My kids and I just loved sitting outdoors in a hot tub with amazing views of the mountains. My husband is a hot tub snob and he loved all of the jets. Evidence of this are the 2 brand new hottubs in a relaxing little outdoor alcove. They are still renovating the hotel and updating and adding on as their budget permits (the owners told me that). We asked questions about the local area and they humored us and all of the other guests with great attitudes and thoughtful answers. The owners are very accommodating people. I also wanted to mention the owners and some of the hotel amenities. This hotel was also within 20 minutes of Wolf Creek what a deal! I noticed most of the other hotels in South Fork were on the wrong end of town for people going to the ski area. It felt like we were staying in a condo, but we paid a hotel price. If you're more civilized, there is a table and chairs. We sat on the bed and chairs and watched TV while we enjoyed dinner with the kids. We cooked our own dinners in the room and saved a bundle. But you have to see the renovations! Each room has wood paneling, completely new drywall and paint, new bathroom fixtures, beautiful hard wood furniture, and most importantly comfy beds! We stayed in a room with an oven, microwave, fridge, sink, and coffeepot. I've heard the trout fishing is exceptional on the Rio Grand which runs through the town, so another reason to visit this beautiful area!Īt first glance, this may appear to be just another hotel. If I were to choose a place near to the Wolf Creek Skiing area again, it would be Wolf Creek Ski Lodge without a doubt. I rented my Skis at 8200 Mountain Sports, which is 1 min drive and has some very good deals. There's no on site laundry, but there's a very well run and clean Laundromat (four seasons Laundromat) 3 minutes up the road. In town there's the Rainbow grocery store which stocks everything you'll need and a liquor store too. They also provide discounted lift tickets to the Wolf Creek ski area. The owners, Bob and Sherry are very welcoming and knowledgeable about the area. Fantastic! The unit was exceptionally clean, with HD TV, free WIFI, excellent heating and good bedding which was not too soft. This allowed me to cook-in after skiing, and prepare my own breakfast so I could eat at leisure. My room had a small kitchen which comprised of a stove, fridge and microwave.
